Dispute in Las Vegas over New Slogan

Las Vegas has found itself in quite a dilemma after the city gambling industry has released a slogan under the name of "What happens here, stays here". This slogan has caused conflict among anti gambling activists and has even made gamblers in Las Vegas upset.

The US District Court has decided to get involved in the matter and Tuesday there will be a meeting between representatives on both sides that will determine if such a slogan is too controversial.

Other then the controversy of the slogan is a copyright infringement on Dorothy Tovar whom sells products that feature the slogan, "What happened in Vegas, stays in Vegas". She claims that this new slogan is too similar to hers and it infringes on her copyright laws. She claims that they are either to discard the sign or pay her royalties for originating the idea.

Tovar has hired a lawyer for this legal pursuit and he has stated that this may be a battle that is not solved over night but rather take a few months until it is processed and a ruling is reached. The question people are asking is whether Las Vegas casinos can still use this slogan until a conclusion is reached.

There is no answer as of right now but the ruling on Tuesday will clear things up for all those involved.

Tovar has been on the other side of the battle as she has had charges put on her by R&R in 2004 that she infringed on their copyright laws of the slogan.

The Tovar case has been discussed over the past few weeks and the Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman has been called in to voice an opinion. Goodman is interested in making within city rules regarding what is allowed and what is forbidden in the war of trademarks. He thinks that there are not concise enough rules for there to be a trial and first the city needs to establish its own rules in regards to trades marking.
